Targeting big yellowfin tuna whilst vertical jigging is a relatively new technique in the Cape. This is a very popular method of targeting big fish and really does provide results. Short specialist jigging rods are matched up with high speed reels filled with braid. I use 80lb braid on my rods. Between the braid and jig it is important to have a length of monofilament to provide some give or stretch in the line. The mono then gets connected to an assist hook and the jigs are then conveniently clipped on and off the steel ring on the assist hook setup.

The yellow above took me about 25 minutes to land and gave a fantastic fight! It weighed in at 82kgs! Capt. Dave
